Despite so much research being done on diabetes, it still remains an incurable disease. While type 1 diabetes is genetic and cannot be prevented, the onset of type 2 can be stopped by taking preventive measures. These measures are based on the pre diabetes symptoms that are early signs for those who will suffer full blown diabetes later on. Such patients should be thankful to these early signs as these can play an important role in saving them from permanent diabetes. Preventive measures need to be taken by those people who have increased blood sugar levels but still not sufficiently high to be classified as type 2 diabetes.

We Should Be Thankful For the Pre Diabetes Symptoms

People need to keep a vigilant eye on their blood sugar levels if they are over weight, live sedentary lives and are experiencing symptoms such as insatiable hunger and thirst or frequent urination because these come under pre diabetes stage. Fortunately, this situation can be reversed and you can save yourself from irreversible diabetes by making immediate changes in your lifestyle. This means that you have to take a close look at what you eat and do routinely. Modify your eating habits and include physical exercise in your daily life and you can stop the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Benefit from pre diabetes stage can only be taken if immediate steps are taken towards a healthier life. Here are some tips that you can follow to prevent pre diabetes from developing into actual diabetes:

1.    Checking blood sugar: Keeping an eye on your blood sugar level is essential. This can help you in preventing complications that arise out of high sugar level.
2.   Become physically active: Exercise is good for health whether you are experiencing pre diabetes signs or not. If you exercise for at least 30 minutes a day regularly, you reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
3.    Lose excess weight: One of the major causes of diabetes is overweight or obesity. It can also lead to other health problems like heart disease, hypertension and kidney problems. You can reduce 50% of the risk of developing diabetes by losing as little as 10% of your weight. Hence, losing excess weight makes a lot of sense if you want to live a fit life!
4.   Eating healthy: You cannot lose weight if you do not eat healthy. Healthy food means not eating high carbohydrate and high cholesterol products. Instead, take foods that are rich in fibres such as fruits, vegetables and nuts.

Our body has been designed to give warning signs if there is something wrong with it. It is up to you to read those signs and take preventive steps. Prevention is better than cure especially for a disease like diabetes which doesn’t have a cure! And the only way of not getting type 2 diabetes is by recognising the pre diabetes signs and taking urgent steps to overcome them.
