A lot of talking is done on the worst effects and the illnesses that are caused as a result of the poor management of the diabetes and carelessness in the treatment of the disease. Often doctors are blamed by the patients for poor treatment they provide, as a consequence of which they have endured such situations. But a doctor who sees the patient after a month and in case of some special checkups is not to be blamed for the harms. Some responsibility lies on the shoulders of the patients and his/her guardians as well. This is very important if one has to avoid his/her foot or leg being amputated, which results after the common foot problems in the diabetics get severe.

Amputation and diabetes | Worst nightmare For diabetics

Simple precautionary measures, in daily life, can prevent prevalence of dangerous consequences, especially as result of loss of sense in the feet ant the legs. Daily examine your feet thoroughly, using your eyes and if you find any cuts or injuries, apply antiseptic solution on it or visit any nearby clinic, otherwise the injury can intensify and worse infections can develop. The injuries might occur as a result of cuts that develop due to walking on barefoot, which is strictly prohibited for the diabetics, who often come to know about any injury on their feet when the infection is advanced.

Loss of feelings from the feet is so dangerous that sometimes deep cuts made by sharp blades do not come into notice of the patient. Similarly, too hot water is also dangerous which can burn the skin without being felt. So, before taking bath with hot water, make sure that you estimate its hotness by feeling it by hands first. If you are very comfortable with your hands and you do not feel any burning of your hands, then you are free to use that water.

Bleeding may also occur from the cracks which are the outcome of very dry skin, which is not moisturized properly with any moisturizing agent, such as lotion or warm water. This is also often not felt by the diabetics and so it is recommended that you regularly apply moisturizing lotion to your feet to prevent any dryness.
