Diabetes is a disease when the cells develop resistance to insulin and later on the pancreas slows down production of insulin, causing type-2 diabetes. The production of insulin might also stop completely due to some infection, causing the type-1 diabetes. In both the cases the consequences are same, which is the abnormal rise in the blood glucose level as there is no insulin to take insulin to the cells of the tissues, where it can be oxidized to get energy, or can be stored for use later on. This abnormal rise in sugar, if left untreated for a long time will cause severe problems later. Patients have to fight against it continuously, with the help of doctors, by using appropriate drugs, injecting insulin, and changing the lifestyle. But be careful because the blood sugar level can drop well below the lower limit. This situation is called hypoglycemia.
